25일(현지시간) 콜롬비아 쿠쿠타에서 몸무게가 220kg이 나가는 거구의 여성을 병원으로 옮기기 위한 대작전이 펼쳐졌다.
70세의 ‘클레멘티나 오티즈 드 블랑코(Clementina Ortiz de Blanco)’는 저혈당증과 전신부종때문에 움직일 수가 없는 상태였다. 저혈당증으로 인해 체내 수분량이 지나치게 많아진 할머니를 병원으로 옮기기 위해 70명에 달하는 구조대와 중장비까지 동원됐다.
소방관과 구급대, 경찰이 한 팀을 이룬 구조대는 몸무게 220kg의 할머니를 집 밖으로 옮기기 위해 벽을 허물고 크레인까지 동원해야 했다.
쿠쿠타 소방서장 호세 하비에르 몬살베(Jose Javier Monsalve)는 할머니를 옮기기 위해 곡괭이와 삽을 이용해 들것을 옮길 길을 만들고, 크레인으로 들것을 걸어 큰길로 옮겼다고 전했다.
의사 페데리코 마르케스(Federico Marquez)는 할머니가 심장과 호흡기 이상으로 고통받았으며 팔과 목을 빼고는 더이상 몸을 움직일 수 없었다고 설명했다. 그는 “70세의 클레멘티나는 무시무시할 정도로 살이 쪘다. 그녀는 ‘전신 부종(Anasarca)’ 증세가 상당히 많이 진행된 상태이다. 그녀는 몸무게가 거의 220kg에 달한다. 호흡하는 것도 어렵고 팔과 목만 움직일 수 있을 뿐이다.”라고 말했다.
6개월 전 할머니의 몸무게는 140kg이었으나 그 이후로 80kg이나 쪘다고 한다.
220kg의 할머니를 옮기기 위해 구조대는 특별하게 제작한 강화 침대를 사용했으며, 할머니를 집 밖으로 옮기기 위해 몇 개의 벽을 부숴야 했다.

A Colombia woman weighing 220 kilograms (485 pounds) was moved to hospital by a 70-person strong emergency team on Thursday (October 25).
Seventy-year-old Cementina Ortiz de Blanco suffers from a medical condition called hypoglycemia, that causes her body to retain liquids in enormous volumes.
A team of firefighters, ambulance workers and police worked to move her out of her home in the city of Cucuta, located some 700 kilometers (430 miles) northeast of the capital Bogota.
Cucuta Fire Chief Jose Javier Monsalve explained the process of getting De Blanco out of her home.
"(We have) picks and shovels in order to make a path to transport the stretcher and hook it to a crane. The crane can take her out to the main road, where she is going to be transported in a fire fighters vehicle to a medical center," the fire chief said.
Dr. Federico Marquez explained that De Blanco suffered heart and respiratory problems and could no longer move anything apart from her arms and neck.
"The 70-year-old woman, Clementina, is morbidly obese. She is in a very advanced stage of cardiac malfunction, medically known as Anasarca. She weighs approximately 220 kilograms, has respiratory difficulty, and total incapacity of movement. She can only move her arms and neck."
Six months ago she weighed 140 kilograms (308 pounds), but she has gained 80 kilograms (177 pounds) since then.
Workers used a specially-made, reinforced hospital bed for the operation, and had to demolish several walls of the Ortiz de Blanco's home in order to get her out of the house. | |
