Schwabe는 독일 홀스타인의 Altona에서 태어 났으며, 스위스의 제네바로 이주하여 어린 나이에 스위스 국적을 취득했다. 제네바에서 미술을 전공 한 후 파리로 이주하여 젊은 시절 벽지 디자이너로 일했으며, 상징주의 예술가들, 음악가들 (Guillaume Lekeu (Belgian composer), Vincent d' Indy(French composer) 작가들에 대해 알게되었다. 1892 년에 그는 유명한 듀란 드-루엘 (Durand-Ruel)의 호세핀 페라 단 (Joséphin Péladan)이 주관한 유명한 살롱 데라 로즈+크로의 화가 중 한 명이었다. 첫 번째 살롱을위한 그의 포스터는 이상주의적 새로운 예술의 중요한 상징적 작품이었다. 그의 그림은 전형적으로 신화적이고 우화적인 주제를 매우 개인적이고 이상 주의적 시각과 사회적 관심으로 특징 지었다. Schwabe의 가장 중요한 작품은 파리의 오르세 미술관, 제네바의 Musée d' Art et d' Histoire, 리오 데 자네이로 (Museu Nacional de Belas Artes), 암스테르담의 반 고흐 미술관 (Van Gogh Museum) Bruxelles에있는 Musées royaux des Beaux-Arts 및 개인 소장품들이 있다. Schwabe는 남은 생애 동안 프랑스에서 살았으며 1926 년 Seine-et-Marne의 에이본 (Avon)에서 사망했다.
