삽화의 황금시대 (Golden Age of Illustration)에 활동한 프랑스 일러스트레이터이다.
19세기 말부터 뉴스 페이퍼와 잡지들의 활성화로 인해 많은 일러스트레이션이 필요하게 되었고,
아르누보와 영국에서 시작한 예술 공예 운동 (art and craft movement)의 영향으로
다양한 신고전주의풍의 그림들이 생산되었다.
프랑스 태생의 과감한 실험정신으로 다양한 화풍을 남긴 위대한 작가 에드먼드 듈락은
일러스트 골든 에이지 작가 3인방 (카이 닐슨, 아서 렉컴, 에드몬드 듈락) 중의 한 사람으로 꼽힌다.
로코코풍의 드레스와 중국 의상 등 정교하고 화려한 듈락의 그림은
아라비아의 천일야화와도 같은 느낌이 느껴져 그 당시 아르누보의 느낌과는
무언가 색다른 분위기라 신선하다고 할 수 있다.
상상과 적절한 우화적 소스를 잊지 않은 삽화는 극사실주의부터 애니 계통까지
넘나드는 아름다운 행보를 남겼다.
루마니아 여왕, 아라비안 나이트, 나이팅게일, 눈의 여왕, 미녀와 야수, 잠자는 숲속의 공주 등
수많은 책의 삽화를 작업하였다.
